Altered Books and Book Objects

As the 2011-2012 school year gets underway, the Waskowmium is pleased to present our first show, “Book Objects and Altered Books” in honor of that essential learning tool (learn more about BOABs). Who doesn’t have a fond memories of “customizing” those tomes? Adding exploding flip animations to the corners of Elementary Physics or rewriting the definition of “blowsabella” in the classroom dictionary?

Well, in this collection you’ll find a stunning variety of artist-made and artist-altered books by folks who found a way to make a living (or a partial living) transforming the definition of a book. From the highly sculptural work, “God Box” by Washington-based artist duo Margot Casstevens and Kurt Madison to the formal “Stories of Childhood” by Vermont artist Alice Eckles, these work represent nearly a decade of book art across a dazzling array of media. Enjoy!
